    About the artist

    Liisa Jugapuu

    Contemporary abstract painter

    Liisa Jugapuu’s practice focuses on exploring balance, movement and an inner sense of space through abstract painting. Her works emerge through a layered process where colour, surface and composition evolve in a dialogue between intuitive decision and a conscious sense of form.

    For her, abstraction does not mean the absence of an image, but the possibility of creating states: silence, tension, rhythm and emotional presence. The painting does not describe a story; it creates a space for experience where the viewer can relate to the work on a personal and unspoken level.

    Alongside original works, she creates commissioned paintings for private collections, contemporary interiors and professional collaborative projects with galleries, interior architects and spatial designers. Her practice brings together contemporary painting, gallery aesthetics and a strong sense of space.

    Jugapuu graduated from the painting department of the Estonian Academy of Arts (BA 2015, MA 2017) and is a member of the Estonian Painters’ Association and the Estonian Artists’ Association. Her works have been shown in exhibitions across Estonia and in international shows. She lives and works in Haapsalu.

    “Future Stars of Estonian Art” competition – 3rd place

    In spring 2016, NOAR, in collaboration with the Estonian Academy of Arts, organised a young artists’ competition where Liisa Jugapuu was awarded third place.
